Assets equal liabilities plus owner's equity, and it is never allowed to break. Your student watches three transactions balance, completes five more, then proves a full set of books balances to the dollar.

Accounting is unusual among school subjects: it has a built-in check on your own work. If it does not balance you made a mistake, and you know before anybody marks it.
